I got this line from a movie titled "a million ways to die in the west" and by this line, I mean the title of this article and I fell in love with it ever since. It got me thinking about how we fail to see things even with our eyes open probably because we are blinded by God-knows-what. It's gotten so bad that we'd see what's right for us but we'd rather choose what's expected of us and you know what's even worse? It's looking and not seeing.
Sometimes the bigger half of the meat is more bony but because it's bigger, it automatically becomes first choice. Some people when told to choose between five twenty naira notes and a one thousand naira note, would rather go for the five twenties because it's more (quantity over quality, imagine that). How can you be blind with eyes that big? Or better still, how can you be blind with your eyes wide open? (this doesn't apply to people who have lost their sight though).
How about you looking at things beyond the way they appear? Isn't it true when they say that looks can be deceiving? And didn't even the bible say that there is a path that seems right to men (don't know the exact words) but the end thereof is destruction. We also have our very own popular idiom "all that glitters is not gold". Taking a very close at this, we'd see that it's just the truth.
Most times, the good around us is dressed in tattered clothes and that's why we fail to see it because we can't look beyond the outlook. We are all guilty of this, everyone of us is. It's time to change and I'm not talking about APC change, I'm talking about actual change. The one that comes from within which in turn manifests on our outward selves and how do we go about this?
Firstly, in every situation we find ourselves (good or bad but mostly good), take a deep breath and if possible close your eyes for a second. Having done that, we can do what's next which is the second phase; ask yourself, is this right for me? I mean unless you've been expecting something and it works out then yea, you might not need to do this but if something great just happens to you without your expectation, don't just be over excited because "all that glitters isn't gold". Make sure you ask the question 'is it right for me?
Finally and I'm going to stop here, you must have thought deeply about it and what do you do now, you make the wise choice. Don't look with your 'eyes wide shut', make sure you see what you look at, and not just seeing it, acting on it because that's what would make the seeing worthwhile.

This brings us to the third phase of our inward change which is thinking deeply about the price we would pay if what glitters turns out to not be gold or if it turns out to be gold, what do you stand to lose? What do you stand to gain? Think!!!
