The
other day when D’Prince of Mavin Records was asked for the inspiration behind
his ‘take banana’ song and what banana meant, he told us that he had a friend
who really liked banana – the fruit. He said she always made him buy her lots
of it so it inspired him to write the song. Between us, we know that’s not the
truth, not even close to the truth. If he had a friend who actually liked
banana which inspired the song, we already know it’s not the fruity banana,
it’s the other one *winks*
Before
Dagrin died, he was interviewed about his Kondo/Condo song, where he got his
inspiration and what condo/kondo meant. He told us that condo/kondo meant
condition and successfully centered his explanation on the condition of living,
bla bla but again we know that the truth was so far away, the truth was abroad in
fact.
I’m
quite sure (emphasis on quite) that if Tekno is asked about the cassava in his
Pana song, he’d probably tell us it means love or something but just like the
others, we know that’s going to be another big fat obvious lie.
This banana ain't smiling |
What
is it about these things that the truth can’t be told? If telling the truth is
so difficult, why not you go for something defendable or damn the consequences
and explain the real reason behind your inspiration. Oh, I remember we try to
be so diplomatic that we decide not to say things as it is but it doesn’t mean
we should say things as they’re not. You know how you don’t want to say the
truth or lie either, yeah, like that, you just have to strike a balance.
How
about telling us that banana is whatever we want it to be, so we can call it
money, goals, whatever - balance achieved. Everybody is happy, rather than
telling an obvious lie because to be very honest; even bananas know the truth,
yeah, banana told me.
