Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!! - Now Lets Make Some Resolutions

I usually don’t do first posts of the year but I just need to ask, how effective is your New Year resolution? How effective was it last year? New Year resolutions have been a norm for us year in, year out. We make certain promises to ourselves, some make it mentally while some even go ahead to write them down. Sometimes, we share the resolutions with others and sometimes we don’t, we just plan to work on them low-key. It works sometimes while some doesn’t work, we just repeat the same cycle over and over.

The truth is, you don’t have to make those resolutions if you don’t want to. Some of us make resolutions because everyone else is making them or because we just don’t want to go with ‘the flow’ which actually defeats the purpose of making the resolutions at all. It’s another ‘new year’ and I’m sure a lot of us already have things we’ve resolved to do this year but it’s easier said than done right?

Maybe you want to stop smoking and drinking this year, or you want to start a course this year, or you want to get that job this year or save up that money this year, how about you start by taking conscious steps towards achieving them? Avoid the company of smokers or drinkers if you can, get the form for the course and pay your fees, apply for that job, be prudent in spending, etc. the list is endless. Don’t just say it; you have to act on it.

Sometimes, the promises you fulfill are the ones you tell no one about. Be quiet about it if you can but don’t let your actions be quiet. Avoid distractions and focus. Remember why you made the resolution, how your life is and how you want it to be. Let them guide you towards actualizing these thoughts. If you have to tell someone, tell someone who will constantly remind you when you seem to stray, to keep you in check. Be as productive with your talks as you should be with your actions.

Speak positive. We underestimate the power of the tongue too much. You have to speak into your life what you want to see. Give birth to good deeds through good seeds because your words are seeds. The earlier you realize that, the better for you. Don’t forget to talk the talk and walk the talk and watch your resolutions become achievements.

Happy New Year Darlings!

Dunsin's Kitchen - Second Year Anniversary

I’m not a fan of long WhatsApp posts hence the need to write, post and just share the link on one WhatsApp/Instagram post. I’m a bit rusty (writing-wise) sha but I’ll try. I want to talk about how Dunsin’s Kitchen (DK) started because it’s our second anniversary today. I never imagined being a cook at this time, not with banking and family stress. I’ve imagined selling food a couple of times and it was inspired by one boli and beans seller in Asaba during my NYSC in 2014. I told my friend Osaru then that I’d love to start a place like that and call it Boli Kitchen. We just used to laugh about it then plus I’m not really a fan of beans though I could cook it well if I wanted to. Fast forward to 2020, we had a guest- my husband’s colleague who I served jollof rice and she kept talking about how good it was. One day, she said she would love to buy if I could make it for her so I agreed. Then I decided to ask others if they’d like to buy so I wouldn’t be making a small portion and some agr...

My Marriage Story...So Far

I get to be asked about how marriage has been a lot by some of my unmarried friends. I’ve not even been married for long enough to be qualified to answer that question. From my little experience, marriage, like any other phase in life isn’t all smooth. It has its ups and downs. There’s an extra respect you get as soon as you get married. I get to be called MA a lot by people who wouldn’t ordinarily call me that and I’m wondering why. I guess it’s just the way the society has made it. Oh and I lost some friends as soon as I got the MRS title. Some people don’t care about how serious your relationship is, they’d still be on your ‘case’ but as soon as you say “I do”, they’d forget you like you never existed. This was good and bad for me because I considered some to be great friends but then, I guess I was wrong. Then there’s the pressure to get pregnant, I got lucky to get pregnant earlier than I thought though I wasn’t even ready. But before my body began announcing it, I still...

Life after Death...real or not?

Life after death....hmmmm      I know we've all heard or read stories about people who lived after they died.      I'm not talking about reincarnation this time, I'm talking about people who were confirmed dead but were still recognised elsewhere alive, hale and hearty.      Okay, there was this lady who resided close to my house diagnosed with tuberculosis or something related because she was drying up real bad, might have been Hiv too (just saying), she usually patronised my shop where soft drinks and snacks were sold. She usually bought only pepsi or 7up, as the spirit led her I guess.      I was very young then and observant too as always so one day she came as usual, bought 7up and left. Not long after she left, I heard that she had died the previous day.      I wondered how someone could be dead and still buy her usual the next day, I thought it was a strange thing so I never told anyone.   ...
