How To Pray While Smoking

So I walk up to my Pastor to ask him if it’s okay for me to smoke while praying (no, I didn’t do that) then he lectures me about how it seems disrespectful and how my prayers would probably not even pass through the ceiling of my room talk less of it going straight to heaven to God himself. Imagine if I had asked him instead if I could pray while smoking, he’d have most likely seen no wrong with it because one is expected to be able to pray anytime regardless of what we were doing before deciding to pray.

That’s exactly how most of us pray. The problem isn’t in what we ask for but how we ask for it. Even the bible (apologies to non-bible readers) says that most of don’t receive answers to our prayers because we ask amiss/wrongly/out of order. So we know what we want, but putting them in the way it should be, saying them as it is meant to sound becomes a challenge which ends up being the reason behind many of our unanswered prayers.

If you were God, what kind of prayers will you give answers to? What kind of prayers will sound logical and worth giving a shot to you? God is not like man of course but he has made us in his likeness so there should be more to his likeness in us other than the obvious. We have the ability to think like a god too so we have been given the ability to ask right, we just have to use it.

God himself didn’t say ‘if there was light, things would have been different’, he said ‘let there be light’ and the bible didn’t say ‘and light came a day later’, it said ‘and there was light’. You just need to ask right. Maybe that’s another thing you should pray about, how to pray right. I say AMEN to your prayers and pray that we pray right.

Dunsin's Kitchen - Second Year Anniversary

I’m not a fan of long WhatsApp posts hence the need to write, post and just share the link on one WhatsApp/Instagram post. I’m a bit rusty (writing-wise) sha but I’ll try. I want to talk about how Dunsin’s Kitchen (DK) started because it’s our second anniversary today. I never imagined being a cook at this time, not with banking and family stress. I’ve imagined selling food a couple of times and it was inspired by one boli and beans seller in Asaba during my NYSC in 2014. I told my friend Osaru then that I’d love to start a place like that and call it Boli Kitchen. We just used to laugh about it then plus I’m not really a fan of beans though I could cook it well if I wanted to. Fast forward to 2020, we had a guest- my husband’s colleague who I served jollof rice and she kept talking about how good it was. One day, she said she would love to buy if I could make it for her so I agreed. Then I decided to ask others if they’d like to buy so I wouldn’t be making a small portion and some agr...

My Marriage Story...So Far

I get to be asked about how marriage has been a lot by some of my unmarried friends. I’ve not even been married for long enough to be qualified to answer that question. From my little experience, marriage, like any other phase in life isn’t all smooth. It has its ups and downs. There’s an extra respect you get as soon as you get married. I get to be called MA a lot by people who wouldn’t ordinarily call me that and I’m wondering why. I guess it’s just the way the society has made it. Oh and I lost some friends as soon as I got the MRS title. Some people don’t care about how serious your relationship is, they’d still be on your ‘case’ but as soon as you say “I do”, they’d forget you like you never existed. This was good and bad for me because I considered some to be great friends but then, I guess I was wrong. Then there’s the pressure to get pregnant, I got lucky to get pregnant earlier than I thought though I wasn’t even ready. But before my body began announcing it, I still...

Life after Death...real or not?

Life after death....hmmmm      I know we've all heard or read stories about people who lived after they died.      I'm not talking about reincarnation this time, I'm talking about people who were confirmed dead but were still recognised elsewhere alive, hale and hearty.      Okay, there was this lady who resided close to my house diagnosed with tuberculosis or something related because she was drying up real bad, might have been Hiv too (just saying), she usually patronised my shop where soft drinks and snacks were sold. She usually bought only pepsi or 7up, as the spirit led her I guess.      I was very young then and observant too as always so one day she came as usual, bought 7up and left. Not long after she left, I heard that she had died the previous day.      I wondered how someone could be dead and still buy her usual the next day, I thought it was a strange thing so I never told anyone.   ...
