My End Of The Year Note

Dear OTTH Readers, how are we? I'm very fine and I can smell 2016 already afterall it's just some hours from now so I guess I'd just use this medium to say merry Christmas in arrears and happy new year in advance. I hope we all "shouted out" to our uncles and aunties, class teachers, lol, don't mind me. I'm sure we remember those Christmas funfairs where kids shout out to their loved ones where some even cry while talking, it's very hilarious watching them. Okay, now to the reason we're here. This year wasn't so bad for me though it didn't start so well but I have a lot to be thankful for and I'm going to share them with you. Let's start with the negatives so the story can have a good ending. For about half of the year, I was jobless which means I was frustrated, broke, you know the drill. Recently too, I lost my school's Vice Chancellor, Mrs. Esther Tchokatcheu who played a very important role in the process of my being a gr

Meet Michael, The "Date" You'd Never Forget 2

I know we all are eager to know the end of this story and believe me, even I, am curious to know the end of this story. If you’ve not read the first part of this story, please click here  to do so. Now let’s continue the gist; so I and Michael kept in touch and he needed a bae not like he didn’t have other choices as a bad guy but I chose to hook him up with one of my single friends Fatima but they didn’t get along well because he believed Fatima was lying about being single since she hardly had time for him so I hooked him up with another bae, Amaka and believe me, you must like Amaka before you can unlike her.  So I gave him strict warnings because you don’t joke with my baes, and I’d go to war for them anytime so he adhered strictly and of course, I was getting feedback from Amaka, she would hide nothing from me including things that should be “shhhhhhh-ed”. So he and Amaka planned to see and just like me, she doesn’t meet people for the first time in their houses. So my nigga tol

Death; The Theory You Want To Read by Celestine Atufu

The whole concept of death is crazy. Its really hard knowing what its like since most of us haven’t ever been there after all I'm writing for the living not even like we want to find out because you know what that means right? Most times people who are suicidal are considered cowards infact that’s kind of a stereotype but I'm here thinking about if its possible that some of them were carried out as a result of curiosity you know, trying to know what its all about and what lies at the other end of the line? Just a pity they didn’t have a laid down plan of reaching out to us you know like a feedback. Even those who claim to have almost been there can't claim to have a full knowledge of it. There's a reason why you came back to life infact you didn’t die in the first place. Almost is nothing, its just like the case of a blind man, do you know how difficult that is? Waking up every morning to the fact that he is blind? I bet at some point they get confused as to whether t

To Kneel Or Not To Kneel?

This is to my very romantic people, my very unromantic people like myself and my just-there people which means this is for everyone.  This write up was inspired by Shola who asked a group of us sometime ago about how we think a marriage proposal or better still how we want our marriage proposal to be for those of us who are unmarried. A colleague shared with us the story of how he proposed to his wife and I’m going to share it with us. According to him, he took his wife to a restaurant (he didn’t tell us if it was a five star restaurant though) so after a very nice meal, he proposed without kneeling, just across the table and she said yes. The story triggered a lot of argument as to whether a man should or should not kneel to propose to his woman. Some people said it’s a must that the man should kneel since that has been the traditional way of marriage proposals and it won’t take anything from him. Some people were of the opinion that the kneeling makes it special and since he won’t

Meet Michael, The "Date" You'd Never Forget

I’ve met guys and I’ve met GUYS but that’s not all, I’ve also met gUyS. So I guess you’re beginning to imagine stuff yeah? Lol, I thought as much. Even the males can’t lie that they’ve met different kind of ladies and when I mean met, I’m not speaking of long term meetings, I’m talking about dates. We’ve all been on dates and some have been good, some bad, some ugly experiences for us and some, a combination of the three which determines if you’d see your date again. Meeting people isn’t one of the things I’d say I love doing but once in a while, I just tell myself, hey, why not? Especially when I consider the person to be someone who has sense and wouldn’t be a waste of time but sometimes when I’m less busy or bored and there’s someone who’s been wanting to meet me so I just use that opportunity to meet them. Funny enough, the ones who eventually turn out bad usually don’t sound bad prior to the meeting but when we meet, I see their true color. I remember my date with Dimeji who

The Memoirs Of An Extraordinary UNIBEN Student 2 by Kennius Boggs

And with a start, I woke up. I checked the time. It was some minutes to 2am in the morning. I looked around, my sister was already upright, sitting on the bed, looking as though a ghost husband had been arranged for her hand in marriage, and there was nothing she could do about it. Ok, I looked left and right, trying to ascertain where those loud bangs came from. As I was about to ask my sister what made those sounds, I heard it again, BANG! This time it rang louder than before and I heard the door leading to the hostel, break.       Ok. While I was still trying to put two and two together, my sister just blurted out, "Robbers are in the hostel"....      My heartbeat raced to like 1000 beats per second. Adrenaline pumping everywhere. The initial fear, gripped me like a policeman would grip the belt region of a criminal's trouser. I immediately thought of where to hide so that I and my sister would be invisible to them. Unfortunately my room was quite open and I c

The Memoirs Of An Extraordinary UNIBEN Student by Kennius Boggs

I want to attempt to immortalize or put down on paper, an experience of mine I had in the university, University of Benin (UNIBEN) to be precise by the year 2008. At the time, I was in three hundred level medicine, staying off campus, Osasogie area, close to God's grace hostel, for those readers who know UNIBEN well. Now, before I continue, a little introduction and preface. My name's Kenny and presently I'm a graduate, to the glory of God. I like (in random order) making good friends, any beans cuisine, egusi soup, Jesus, graphics designs, playing football, computer games, and many other things. Of course, there are a number of things I don't like, like (also in random order) oppressive people, okro and ogbono soup, robbers, Benin city as a whole, someone slapping me (lol), washing plate, bla bla bla.... Anyways, I believe that one of the hallmarks of maturity is toughness, which is one thing, I'm not lacking, in terms of experiences I've had that were t

All Na Packaging; What I Learned From Lagos Drivers

Good morning Dear OTTH Readers, I hope we're fine because I'm great. Today I'm going to share with us something I learnt from a keke driver though not directly. We should always open our mind to learning and be very aware of our environment because we don't know when the lessons learned would be needed. The other day, Wande told us(I and some colleagues) about the lady he met somewhere and they got talking till it led to what she does for a living and she said she was a sales consultant which sounded pretty impressive, I'm sure you think so too. So one day, he went to Shoprite and as he handed his money over to the cashier, guess who it was, the sales consultant. Many of us would have called ourselves sales girls and sales boys because isn't that what it is abi what's the point of sugarcoating the truth? The truth is, packaging puts you on a higher stool that where you are really because you feel you're a sales consultant so your mind begins to funct

Use What You Have To Get What You Want

Dear OTTH Readers, how are we today? I'm sure we're getting better by the second. Just when I was going to write about distractions, I thought of some things and I decided to write about this instead. I've not seen anyone without a vision just that sometimes, we just don't know how someone would have the kind of vision they have. We all have a picture in our head we'd like to look like in the years to come which we all work towards consciously or unconsciously. No matter the vision, how do you go about achieving it? Where are you supposed to start from? What do you need to start with? Many questions that flood our minds that seem to have no answers but here's the good news, the answer is obvious. How do I mean that the answer is obvious, you need to start from where you are, start with what you have and you'll see how it turns out. When the sentence "use what you have to get what you want" was being said almost everywhere, I very much doubted i
